Highway Sign Dedicated July 22nd for SGT Ronald Burkhart

What a great day !!
This time of the year, with the nice weather out, there are lots of events for folks to attend.
This morning, July 22nd, we held a Highway Memorial Sign dedication ceremony for Sgt Ronald Burkhart, who was killed in Vietnam in 1968.
It was great that Ronald’s mother, Grace was there with other members of Ronald’s family to see the sign be unveiled. Ben Foltz from ODOT brought the sign to The American Legion before the family arrived and many others came and ate breakfast at the Legion.
House Representative Andy Olson starting things off with a brief history of the sign program followed by Terri Thorpe and myself. The sign was paid for by the Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter 585, and 3 members of their group uncovered the sign for all of us to see. Former ODVA Director Jim Willis finished the presentation.
It was a great honor to not only attend, but participate in this ceremony. I don’t get to do this often, but it means a lot to have the opportunity. This was very emotional for me, and I was not sure I could get through it. I am glad that my wife Terri Thorpe, and my son Tyler Troyer were there to guide me.
The sign will be installed eastbound Hwy 20, east of mile post 10. This is in North Albany.
A huge thank you to everyone who supports this project, and to everyone who attended the ceremony, and a HUGE thanks to American Legion Post 10, and its staff, for hosting this event !!!

This ceremony was videotaped. It, and other HHP dedication videos can be watched HERE .
